Microsoft Settles Patent Infringement Lawsuit with Vringo

May 30, 2013 - Microsoft and Vringo Inc. have settled their patent litigation, and Microsoft will pay $1 million up front to Vringo and take a license under Vringo's search engine advertising patents.

Vringo said in a statement that Microsoft also agreed to pay 5 percent of any amount Google pays to use the patents - although that sum is subject to a cap.

Apple Intends to Add Galaxy S4 to Patent Litigation with Samsung

May 22, 2013 - Apple has filed a motion to add Samsung's new smartphone, the Galaxy S4, to the existing patent lawsuit between the two companies.

Apple analyzed the Galaxy S4 and its analysis "revealed that the Galaxy S4 infringes five of Apple's asserted patents in the same ways as Samsung's already accused products," Apple said in the court filing.

Microsoft and Skype Sued for Patent Infringement

May 1, 2013 - CopyTele, a non-practicing entity that monetizes and enforces patents, filed a patent lawsuit against Microsoft over the alleged infringement of two patents. CopyTele claims that Skype, which is owned by Microsoft, infringes two patents related to Web-based secure peer-to-peer communications.

The two patents-at-suit are a "Method and apparatus for securing e-mail attachments" and "Portable telecommunication security device." Both patents issued in 2005.
