General Patent Corporation Licenses DTL Patent to SRT Communications and IT&E Overseas

Suffern, NY, July 20, 2009 − General Patent Corporation (GPC), a leading patent licensing and patent enforcement firm, announced today on behalf of its client, Digital Technology Licensing LLC (DTL), that it has licensed DTL's patent to SRT Communications, Inc. of Minot, ND, and IT&E Overseas, Inc. of Tamuning, Guam.

DTL owns US Patent No. 5,051,799 titled “Digital Output Transducer.” This patented technology covers Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) codec and other cellular communication standards and is used to assure backward compatibility of cell phone handsets and base stations. Other applications of this patented technology include Bluetooth devices.

“We are very pleased to extend a license under the DTL patent to SRT Communications and IT&E Overseas,” said Paul Lerner, General Patent’s Sr. Vice President and General Counsel. “We are happy to extend our standard royalty rate of 0.7% to other cell phone carriers on non-discriminatory terms.”

The terms of license agreements with SRT Communications and IT&E Overseas include both companies paying the DTL standard royalty rate of 0.7%. SRT Communications, Inc. is the largest telephone cooperative in North Dakota, providing wireless telephone service as well as Cable TV and traditional telephone services, and selling cell phones and Bluetooth devices. IT&E Overseas, Inc. provides wireless telephone and DSL Broadband service in Guam and the Northern Marianas, and sells cell phones and Bluetooth devices.

General Patent Corporation represents DTL in the licensing and enforcement of the ‘799 Patent. DTL brought patent infringement lawsuits against Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless (now known as AT&T Mobility), T-Mobile, Sprint and other companies. GPC previously announced that Nokia, Ericsson, Sony-Ericsson, Samsung, LG and others had licensed DTL’s Patent, and that all lawsuits except for Verizon, Sprint and Kyocera had been settled. SRT Communications and IT&E Overseas were third-party defendants in the Kyocera patent litigation.
