October 31, 3012 - A company called Intercarrier Communications (ICC) filed a patent suit against Apple for alleged infringement of a patent on phone messaging services.

ICC's patent, No. 6,985,748, covers a system in which messages are routed across different mobile phone carrier networks based on phone numbers. ICC claims it is infringed by Apple's Messages app, which performs text and photo messaging on the Mac, iPhone and iPad; and by FaceTime, Apple's video chat app.

ICC also filed similar lawsuits against BroadSoft, MobiWeb, Inerop Technologies and Iris Wireless.
