January 5, 2012 - Following its purchase of 2,000 IBM patents last year and its continuing efforts to buy Motorola Mobility for its IP, Google Inc. acquired another 200-plus IBM patents and patent applications in late December 2011.
The most recent patent purchase includes patents directly related to mobile devices, as well as other technologies such as natural language translation, file backup, instant messaging, server load balancing and online learning. Details of the deal were not disclosed to the public.
The Motorola purchase is still under scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission.
