November 2, 2012 - In a patent lawsuit between Enzo Biochem Inc. and Life Technologies Corp. over compounds used in DNA sequencing systems, a jury found for Enzo and set the damages award at $48.6 million.
Besides the jury award, which covers direct infringement penalties, Enzo says it may also receive "tens of millions" more in interest. Life Technologies merely said that it had received an "unfavorable verdict" in the lawsuit and that the ruling won't affect its current sales because the infringed patent expired in 2004. Life Technologies plans to appeal the verdict.
Enzo filed the lawsuit in 2004 against Applera Corp., which has since become a part of Life Technologies.
