June 4, 2012 - Since Scott Thompson stepped down as Yahoo's CEO, talks between Yahoo and Facebook have taken on a more conciliatory tone. The All Things D website reports that, according to inside sources, executives at Facebook and Yahoo are close to making a deal that would end their patent infringement lawsuit.
The terms of the deal reportedly include an extensive cross-licensing deal between the two companies. However, Facebook apparently won't be paying a large amount of cash to settle the lawsuit, although it is willing to buy some Yahoo patents.
Both sides are motivated to settle the lawsuit and move forward (especially Facebook, whose IPO was less than spectacular) and there are rumors that Facebook and Apple will collaborate on iOS 6.
