Judge Denies Apple's Request to Move Kodak Patent Lawsuit to Different Court

July 26, 2012 - Apple's request to transfer its patent ownership dispute out of U.S. bankruptcy court and into a federal court was denied by U.S. District Judge George Daniels, because the bankruptcy court judge has not had a chance to address the motion himself.

Judge Daniels said in his ruling that Judge Allan Gropper of the bankruptcy court should have "an opportunity to render a decision on the motion and to have an opportunity to control and move forward the process."

RIM Ordered to Pay $147.2M in Patent Infringement Lawsuit

July 15, 2012 - Research in Motion's financial problems were already fueling speculation about its future. Now more bad news has come RIM's way in the form of a $147.2 million jury verdict in a patent suit.

A jury in Northern California found that RIM infringed Mformation Technologies' patent on a remote management system for wireless devices.

Yahoo and Facebook Settle Patent Infringement Lawsuit, Expand Partnership

July 8, 2012 - Facebook and Yahoo announced on July 6 that they ended their patent lawsuit and have agreed to cross-license their patent portfolios, with no money changing hands. The two companies are also forming an ad sales partnership in which Yahoo will be allowed to reach out to Facebook users by showing "Like" buttons in its ads.

Judge Denies Apple's Request to Block U.S. Release of Samsung Galaxy S III

June 14, 2012 - California District Judge Lucy Koh denied Apple's motion for an injunction on Samsung's Galaxy S III smartphone, which will be released next week in the U.S.

Apple claimed the Galaxy S III should be added to its complaint against the Galaxy Nexus device because the new phone "contains two of the exact infrigning features already at issue."

Amazon.com, LinkedIn and Living Social Sued for Patent Infringement

June 11, 2012 - Cathas Advanced Technologies of Shaker Heights, Ohio filed a patent lawsuit against Amazon.com, LinkedIn and Living Social, alleging infringement of a patent on matching branded web content with customer profile records and generating a link to a "subscribing supplier system."

Cathas claims the companies are infringing the patent by offering gift certificates to their site visitors.

Judge Tentatively Dismisses Patent Case Between Apple and Motorola

June 8, 2012 - U.S. District Judge Richard Posner tentatively dismissed a patent infringement case between Apple and Motorola Mobility, which is now owned by Google.

Judge Posner said he decided to dismiss the lawsuits because neither company presented enough evidence to make a case for damages and because imposing injunctions on either party would be contrary to the public interest.

Angie's List Files Trademark Infringement Lawsuit Against ServiceMagic

June 8, 2012 - Angie's List, the website known for its reviews of various types of service companies and home contractors, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against its competitor ServiceMagic Inc.

Angie's List alleges trademark infringement and unfair competition related to ServiceMagic's use of sponsored links and keywords purchased from Google for use in advertisements.
